Minutes of the 4th General Meeting of theAfrican Philosophy Society (APS) held virtuallyon Wednesday October 13, 2021

Preamble

• The meeting was called to order at 16:06.
• The meeting was presided over by the executive of the APS (Ike Odimegwu, President), Edwin Etieyibo, Secretary and Jonathan Chimakonam, Treasurer).
• The APS executive thanked the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Nigeria for stepping in to host the 4^th APWC (which took place from October 12 to 14, 2021), and which was hugely successful given our current pandemic conditions.

1. Introduction and Preliminaries

From 1^st to 4^th APWC General Meeting (GM) of the APS

• All participants at the 4^th APWC were thanked for being part of the conference. There were a total of 20 papers and 2 keynote addresses presented over 3 days of the conference. The keynotes were delivered by Professors Bruce Janz (University of Central Florida) and Joseph C. Agbakoba (University of Nigeria).

APS Membership

• New APS members were welcomed to the association.
• APS members were encouraged to keep their membership status active

APS Account / Finances

• APS bank accounts (local and domiciliary or dollar accounts) have been opened and need some regularization.
• Currently there is N245, 000.00 (about R8, 300.00 or $500) in APS account, which is the amount collected as membership dues going into the 4th APWC

2. Matters Arising from 1^st to 4^th GM of the APS

• No maters arising from previous APS GMs were discussed.

3. Report from Constitutional Review Committee

• No formal report received from the Constitutional Review Committee on the completion of the matters assigned to them at the last (3^rd)) APS GM.

4. Next (5^th) APWC

• The University of Cape Coast (UCC) was supposed to host the 4^th APWC as an in person conference but it was moved to UNIZIK owing to logistical and other reasons. The plan is that the UCC will be hosting the 5^th APWC in 2023. But because the UCC Department of Classics and Philosophy now have a new Head of Department the Department will meet to confirm if they’re still interested in hosting the 5^th APS members will be updated on this and the host of the 5^th APWC.

 5. Serving on APS Committees

• New APS members are encouraged to step up and volunteer to serve in different capacities in the APS.

 6. Any Other Business

• The 4^th APWC LOC indicated that they’ll be working on the possibility of getting the presentations of the 4^th APWC published in a journal special issue.
